Before you get overwhelmed with yet another social media darling, take a few minutes to build yourself a strong Pinterest profile and a strategy for the best way to use it for your food business.

#1 Separate Your Personal Pinterest from Your Business Pinterest

You can have more than one Pinterest account. Simply send yourself an invitation so you can have a personal account and a business one. Do this as soon as possible because it takes a while for the team at Pinterest to send you the invite.

#2 Create a Username That Prospects and Customers Will Recognize

People will search for you on Pinterest. If you already have a Facebook and/or Twitter business profile try to keep them consistent with your Pinterest profile. If you can’t get the exact name try adding “biz” to the end of the name. This will create continuity and make it easier for people to find you on any given site.

#3 Add an Image of Your Logo

Include an image of your logo if it is something people will recognize right away once they land on your Pinterest page. If you don’t have a logo you can create an image of the business name, use the header from your website, or even use a picture of your flagship product. If you’re a service provider or if there …

Life After Business Link

Life After Business Link

In the last few months as the Coalition Government in the UK has struggled to deal with huge deficits and other financial matters left behind by the previous government, one of their lesser known decisions is very rapidly about to have a significant impact on the small business world. This decision is to remove the Business Link service as from the 25th November, a decision which for a long list of reasons, is going to prove a very detrimental step indeed.

Prior to the arrival of the Business Link service across the UK in the mid 1990’s one could rightly argue that the level and standard of advice being given to start-ups was pretty much of a post code lottery. Many so called Enterprise Agencies that were operating at the time were no more than one man businesses, literally in many cases as the number of women working in this sector was very small. Even worse was the fact that many of these Agencies were staffed by people who had little or no self employment experience.

The introduction of Business Links changed all this significantly and for the last 15 years or so the range and general quality of services available across the country have improved out of sight. Unfortunately one of the real weaknesses of the Business Link system is that it is a national body, albeit with regional influences and differences, and one of their problems has been their relatively poor promotional performance and their inability to reach much more than 15% of total start-ups each year. Despite this Business Links have, across the country, provided advice, information and training workshops for many hundreds of thousands of new business start-ups.

The recent general election in the UK and the forced requirement to concentrate on cutting the huge financial …

Internet Marketing Technology Basics – The 2 Choices Newbies Have

Internet Marketing Technology Basics - The 2 Choices Newbies Have

A lot of people that are relatively new to Internet marketing usually get stuck somewhere in the process of figuring out the ‘back end’ technology. They’re not sure what hosting is, or how to set it up. They have no idea what an FTP client is. They are scared to death about creating a squeeze page or website.

They don’t understand how auto-responders work or how to put a PayPal button on a sales page. They think they have to have a Hollywood type video for their own product. They don’t know how to make their domain name they bought live on the Internet. They believe they have to know website coding to make a website.

You know, stuff like that.

Well the reality is people make it way more complicated than it really is. The back end technology is so much easier today than it used to be. If it wasn’t, a lot of companies wouldn’t even exist today.

So Internet marketing newbies really have 2 choices… they can pay someone else to set up the technology stuff for them, or they can learn it themselves.

Unless they have no desire to learn it themselves AND they have a lot of money and time to waste paying someone else to do it for them, it’s always better to learn the process.

Think about it. Why would you pay someone to do something for you when it could literally take you 5 minutes to complete the task. What’s the value of your time? What’s 5 minutes worth to you versus 2 to 3 hours, or even worse, 2 to 3 days?

If you are going to pay someone, you’re most likely going to hire an outsourcer from India or another overseas country because the cost is much cheaper. But the …
